Stepping Out in Cincinnati

Brand spanking new here at the Library today (and not likely to be in stores before next week) is the book, STEPPING OUT IN CINCINNATI by my friend, Allen Singer. Part of Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series, this volume, Allen's third, deals with the history of entertainment in Cincinnati through 1960 and even a little beyond. Lots of pictures of the grand old movie palaces and vaudeville theatres highlight the informative text. Rare, never before published stage shots from the Queen City's burlesque houses and plenty of shots of the regional TV stars of the period including Bob Braun, mentioned earlier on this blog, Uncle Al, Ruth Lyons, Bill Nimmo and Paul Dixon. If you're from the area, it's instant nostalgia. If you're a fan of the great movie palaces, there's certainly plenty to look at here. There's even a surprising chapter on black entertainment and the legendary gambling in Newport, Kentucky. Oh, in the interest of full disclosure, you WILL find me mentioned in the acknowledgments, just before Tim Lucas but I don't have the slightest financial stake in this book, just a heck of a lot of admiration for the man that compiled it.
